Before performing any surgical procedure, I make a precise diagnostic assessment. This requires exact clarification, various preliminary measurements to calculate the artificial lens, and a detailed consultation with the patient. We offer a cataract clinic for this purpose during which we spend about 30 minutes addressing key issues.
I then perform the operation in Zurich—either on an out- or inpatient basis, whereby the procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis. It is only carried out on an inpatient basis in certain high-risk situations or upon request.
During the operation, the natural lens is exchanged for an artificial one to restore vision. There are various lenses to choose from depending on the clinical picture:
There are several different types of lenses with varying advantages and disadvantages. I have a great deal of experience in the use of intraocular lenses (i.e. artificial lenses placed directly in the eye) and will advise you in detail during the preliminary consultation. Together we will find an individual solution that you are happy with—because a multifocal lens, which can correct everything, including astigmatism, is not always the best choice.
I use only the very latest generation of multifocal lenses during the surgical procedure.
We improve your night vision and contrast vision using aspherical lenses in combination with a UV filter that protects your eyes from harmful ultraviolet radiation (blue light).
You will be able to go home after the procedure if you have somebody to accompany you. The following day, I remove the dressing over the eye and do a first follow-up examination. You will see clearly again within just a few hours or days and enjoy an improved quality of vision. There are three follow-up appointments altogether. During this time, it is necessary to use eye drops for about four weeks.

Surgical procedure in Zurich

In our special consultation for clarification of surgical interventions, you will receive an appointment within 1 to 2 months. In urgent cases, however, we also schedule this at short notice. The operation can then also be performed within 1 to 2 months.
For this purpose, we offer a biometry consultation every Thursday afternoon. On this day, we use a special device to measure your lens and discuss whether cataract surgery is required. If necessary, we will plan the operation afterwards—it will take place about 1 to 2 months after this appointment.
Your eye will be covered after the operation: you will therefore only see with one eye. This is an unfamiliar situation for you. You may also feel a little unsteady on your feet after the operation. We therefore recommend that you bring someone with you or have someone pick you up.
